Who are we?

We at the Scottish Rock Garden Club pride ourselves in being one of the world's friendliest, most forward looking and open plant societies.

The Club was originally formed in 1933, and has more recently become a Scottish Charity doing what it has always done since the beginning which is to create an interest in rock garden plants and encourage their cultivation.

This remit has been at the heart of the Club, and although our membership has expanded and contracted over the years, our geographical reach has continued to extend furth of Scotland [Note: "furth" is a good Scots word meaning "outside"].  We now have members throughout the British Isles, in most countries of Europe, and in all of the continents of the world - except Antarctica!.

We perform endless activities in pursuit of our aims.  We produce a six-monthly colour Journal, we encourage Local Groups to meet, we hold plant Shows to exhibit rock garden plants and compete for points and prizes for the best cultivated plants.  We meet for other events, and run a world-renowned annual Seed Exchange which distributes tens of thousands of packets of seeds of more than 4000 varieties.

We are constantly looking for ways to be even more open, more inclusive and to provide ever expanding resources for ordinary plant lovers.  You will find much more about us in these web pages, and we would encourage you to join us and participate further in the wonderful world of plants.
